The Office of Multicultural Affairs, in collaboration with campus stakeholders, is thrilled to celebrate Latinx History Month! This national celebration runs from September 15 - October 15, and the entire community is invited to a host of events to both acknowledge and celebrate the abundance of Latinx cultures present in our 91快播 community.

Wondering why these dates? September 15 commemorates the independence days in six Central American countries: Honduras, Guatemala, Nicaragua, El Salvador, and Costa Rica celebrate their independence from Spain on the 15th. The 16th is Mexican Independence Day.

Together we’ll be hosting a virtual art show, chatting with Latinx artists, sharing some of our favorite Latinx inspired recipes, and engaging in a discussion with the incredible Afro-Latina actress and author Selenis Leyva!

Digital Art Show

The virtual art show will be held Thursday, October 15 at 6:45 p.m.

Calling all artists! You’re invited to submit a high-resolution photo of an original artwork piece to be shared in a virtual art show! The artwork can reflect any medium of your choice (examples: painting, drawing, sculpture, digital media). The theme should highlight Latinx culture, identity, experiences, or trending topics.

Everyone is encouraged to participate; you do not need to be a trained artist, or an identifying member of the Latinx community. Non-BPU student/staff artists are welcome!

Overcoming Barriers in the Artworld: Four Latinx Artists Share Their Journey

Thursday, October 8 at 7:00 p.m.

Join the 91快播 University Latinx History Month Celebration with Artists, Magdalena Gomez, Ellis Echevarria, Jason R. Montgomery, and Elizabeth Erazo Baez as they discuss their journey as Latinx artists and how their cultural identity has been a source of inspiration and motivation for their work.

The artists are currently being featured in Roots/Raices, an exhibition at Art for the Soul Gallery in celebration of Latinx Heritage Month.

The event is held in collaboration with Art for the Soul Gallery and is co-sponsored by the Springfield Cultural Council.

Latinx Cooking Presentations

Do you enjoy Latinx culture and cooking? Join our virtual cooking presentation! Submit a short video or photo of you cooking Latinx food, and be sure to include the recipe so that our viewers can recreate your dish at home!

Everyone is encouraged to participate; you do not need to be a skilled chef or an identifying member of the Latinx community.

Videos and recipes will be shared throughout Latinx History month through the 91快播 website and social media channel so that you can recreate the dish at home!
