Juneteenth Community Celebration
The Office of Multicultural Affairs in partnership with Springfield Technical Community College is teaming up to offer a Juneteenth Community Celebration. Juneteenth marks the day — June 19, 1865 — that enslaved African Americans in Texas received word they were free, more than two years after President Abraham Lincoln issued the Emancipation Proclamation.
The outdoor community event will offer interactive activities including:
- Read-Aloud "Juneteenth Jamboree" by Carole Boston Weatherford
- Live Performances (including Women of Faith Ensemble, Vocalist Nekita Waller and Spoken Word)
- Black-Owned Businesses and Vendors & Community Resources Fair
- Lawn Games
- Free Lunch for the first 100 Registered Guests
