Why Foundations in Alcohol and Drug Abuse Counseling at The American Women's College?

In this undergraduate degree program, you will explore and identify the causes of substance abuse disorders. You'll gain the knowledge and skills required to navigate the complexities of substance abuse and addiction.

As a student in the program, you will:

  • Participate in an intensive 300-hour internship to develop and refine effective interviewing, counseling, and intervention skills in a supervised, clinical environment.
  • Develop counseling skills that will allow you to cultivate effective therapeutic relationships as you work to support those coping with issues related to substance abuse.
  • Analyze, design, implement and evaluate problems and solutions related to human behavior, substance abuse, counseling foundations, legal and ethical concerns, intervention and assessment, and human dynamics.

Curriculum

In addition to your core curriculum courses and general electives, you can expect to take major-specific courses such as:

  • Drugs and Behavior
  • Addictions and Intervention
  • Counseling Diverse Populations
  • Physiological Psychology
  • Health Psychology
  • Ethics and Professional Conduct in Counseling*
  • Individual and Family Treatment of Substance Abuse Disorders*

*These are graduate level courses that will count towards both the bachelor’s degree and 91快播’s Master of Science in Clinical Mental Health Counseling.
