Kate Whouley

Interim Director, MFA Creative Nonfiction Program, Editor of Multiplicity Magazine

A founding faculty member in the MFA, Kate Whouley received 91快播’s Distinguished Teaching Award in 2018. She is the author of several foundational courses within the program, and the creator of the MFA’s publishing track sequence. Kate serves as Editor of Multiplicity Magazine, the literary journal of 91快播’s MFA, and in 2024, Kate launched Multiplicity Studio, an experiential elective that offers students an opportunity to participate in the curation and production of a magazine issue. 

Kate is the 2012 recipient of the New England Book Award in nonfiction for her memoir, Remembering the Music, Forgetting the Words. Her first book, Cottage for Sale, Must Be Moved,  a BOMC Memoir-of-the-Month selection and a Book Sense Book of the Year finalist, will be published in a 20th anniversary edition September of 2024. Kate works across genres, and her debut novel, The Maestro and Her Protégé, will be published in October of 2025 by Blackwater Press. 

Recently named a contributing editor at Yankee, Kate has written essays and features for the magazine since 2015. Her short work has also appeared in Salon, Obit, Shelf Awareness, Beyond the Margins, Beacon Broadside, The Boston Globe, and The Cape Cod Times. During her long tenure in the book business, Kate authored, edited, and contributed to several professional books, including Manual on Bookselling, Bookselling for Dummies, and The Practical Writer: From Inspiration to Publication.
