Aryanna's Story
Aryanna Wiggins-Gamble is a graduating senior majoring in neurobiology and medical science, with a minor in biotechnology. She also is a resident assistant on campus. When she’s not working or studying, she enjoys reading, going to the gym, practicing yoga, and playing instruments, including guitar, bass, ukulele, and piano. One of her favorite books is The Grapes of Wrath by John Steinbeck.
“As a child, I was very withdrawn because of the constant chaos in my home. My grandma Bev has always been so supportive. I can’t remember a time when she wasn’t there for me. Knowing that she loves me no matter what, I can then love myself. Moving to live on campus was a big changing point in my life. I have learned to be more independent and confident in my abilities. Because of my job, I can fully support myself. Having the ability to do so gives me more control over my life.”
“I have been a resident assistant for three years. This experience taught me valuable life lessons. It encouraged me to be more outspoken and assertive and it gave me a sense of purpose. I have always thought no matter what I do in the future, I want to be of service to others.”
“The reason I chose my majors and a minor was because I was encouraged to by Dr. Quadros-Mennella. Before talking to her, I didn’t think it would be possible. She told me to dream big and aim high. I have done the unthinkable and I am so grateful for her support and my hard work. Another reason that motivates me to keep going is being a woman of color. I want to inspire others to achieve their dreams and never settle for less. As a woman of color, it comes with its challenges, but it has also given me a unique perspective. My culture is rich and beautiful.”
My favorite quote is “Be the change you want to see in the world.” - Gandhi
